Hundreds of youngsters tried out musical instruments and joined in sing-songs at Colchester Council's Musical Zoo event, held in Lion Walk United Reformed Church on Saturday.
Highlights included an endangered species workshop, held by visiting players from the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, which saw children trying out unfashionable classical instruments.
In keeping with the zoological theme, there was also a chance for youngsters to watch owls in flight at Colchester Natural History Museum.
