PLANS for a new Asda supermarket in Rayleigh have been recommended for approval despite local opposition.
The store is planned as part of the redevelopment of the former Park School site, in Rawreth Lane, which is a large-scale mixed-use development in West Rayleigh.
Schemes for housing, a new sports centre and a primary school have already been approved under outline plans agreed in 2001.
The latest scheme is for a new food store, four other shops, a first floor area which would either a doctor's surgery or a children's nursery, plus eight flats.
