Tributes have been paid to a woman who was instrumental in the re-opening of the maternity unit at William Julien Courtauld (WJC) Hospital in Braintree.
Chris Bromwich died after falling from a cross-training exercise machine at Cannons health club in Chelmsford on November 3. She died the following day.
Her death has shocked her family as well as colleagues and friends.
Just months earlier, 56-year-old Mrs Bromwich had been given a promotion and proudly saw the maternity unit in London Road re-opened.
Her daughter Katherine and husband Neil, 60, spoke about her love of life and wicked sense of humour.
Mrs Bromwich had been promoted to matron for community services just before the re-opening of WJC.
Miss Bromwich, 25, said she could not thank her mum's colleagues enough for the support they showed her and her father in the organisation of funeral arrangements.
She said: "The midwives have been absolutely brilliant. I can't believe how good they have been."
