A FRESH offensive against boozers swigging alcohol on the streets is underway in Southend this week as the Government's relaxation of licensing laws comes into effect.
The town is dogged by boozed-up troublemakers, particularly at weekends and in response Southend Council has refused extra opening hours to many pubs and clubs.
In the latest crackdown police will use stop and search powers and issue £50 on-the-spot fines.
Cans and bottles, whether sealed or open, will be confiscated and poured away if police find anyone under the age of 18 in possession of alcohol. Their parents will be also be informed.
