Plans for a £400,000 sports facility in Clacton have been unveiled.

Changing rooms and a hall are to be built on the site of the town's biggest secondary school, but they will also be for the use of the community in the evenings and at weekends.

The scheme is a partnership between Clacton County High School and Tendring Council for a piece of land in a corner of the campus closest to Clacton Leisure Centre in Valence Way.

The building will provide changing facilities for six teams at any one time and an area for them to meet up after matches.

They will be in addition to what is already provided at Vista Road Recreation Ground at the moment, but will mean the Clay Hall building, which is outdated and detached from the rest of the buildings, will be demolished.

Pierre Oxley, Tendring Council's leisure portfolio holder, said he had been in talks with the school for some time over a joint arrangement.

"The discussions have gone well and we have come up with a design for the facility," he said. "A planning application has now been submitted and we hope it will not be a major problem. We have a number of areas we are exploring for the cash and have a meeting with the Football Foundation next month."
