THE new £1million station building at Pitsea is operating at full steam after it was officially opened by Rail Minister Derek Twigg.

Commuters can now monitor new train information screens and use the automatic ticket gates and a coffee shop after the building was completely rebuilt.

It also caters for disabled passengers with low-level ticket windows, disabled toilets and information provided in Braille following the revamp.

Mr Twigg pulled into the station to officially unveil the new building, which was jointly funded by operators c2c and Network Rail.
