Aidan Davison believes that the extra competition for places is keeping discipline in check at Colchester United.
The U's shot-stopper, one of only two players to be sent off this season for the club, feels the team is acting more professionally on the pitch in recent months.
In recent seasons the U's have had bad boy characters such as Alan White and Craig Fagan who picked up a number of cards.
However, in the last two games the U's have not had a single booking as players look to maintain their spot in the side.
Davison said: "In the past we would have been really hit by suspensions. Players would be out and be big misses.
"However, now we have a big squad, one that has plenty of strength and as a result players know that they can't afford to pick up suspensions.
"We've got lads right through the team who can step in and do a good job, so the guys that are starting do not want to present any window of opportunity.
"It has not made us more cautious, but it certainly has made us more professional."
