SOUTHEND international Adam Hickey looks like facing tough weather conditions plus stiff opposition this weekend as he bids to win a place in Great Britain's team for the European Cross-Country Championship.
The trials take place as part of the second round of the UK Cross Challenge at Liverpool's Sefton Park tomorrow and predictions are that the north-west, like much of the country, will be hit by biting icy winds and possible snow.
The battle for places in the six-man junior men's team to fight for Britain in the European event at Tilburg, Netherlands, on December 11 is, unlike the weather, likely to be hot.
The first four home will earn automatic spots in the British team for the race, with the other two being selected on Monday based on general performances.
Last year Hickey made his international debut in the European race and, although only 16 in an under-20 event, finished in 10th place as Britain took the bronze medals.
