It is the second annual initiative by the Anti-bullying Alliance, which aims to teach people about the problems of bullying and encourage children to be friends.

At Templars Junior and Infants schools in Witham, they have renamed the week Friendship Week and have had interaction between older and younger children, with activities and games.

Chris Thurgood, deputy head at the junior school in Cressing Road, said they had been making friendship bracelets and developing their social skills through working together.

The two schools teamed up to link hands around the two schools and release balloons in to the sky.

Pupils at Alec Hunter Humanities College in Stubbs Lane, Braintree, are holding a non-uniform day, called Blue Friday, to mark the week.
