The brave people of Harwich proved nothing could stop them supporting their town.
Let there be lights - four-year-old Tegan Taylor braves the freezing temperatures at the turning on of the Christmas lights in Harwich. (46475-i)
In freezing temperatures and biting winds, the annual turning on of the lights went on no matter what.
Hundreds of people filled St Nicholas's Church on Friday and then streamed out on to Church Street to see the illuminations switched on.
The bands also kept playing, with music coming from the Harwich and District Pipe Band, Salvation Army and Royal British Legion band.
Resourceful organisers also took steps to beat the cold, letting stalls into the church and opening the Guildhall for the night for the first time in ten years.
Harwich mayor John Ford, who performed the switching on ceremony, said: "Given that it was so windy it was good they opened the church and I was really quite impressed with the number of people inside."
