If you fancy yourself as a movie actor, West Mersea is the place to be this week.
The island town will be hosting the crew shooting Tug, the working title of a short film which is billed as a gothic fairytale set in 1890.
David Ward Films, the Emmy award-winning company behind it, is seeking amateur actors aged 30 to 65 to join the cast as villager extras.
The film tells the story of a close-knit fishing community which exacts its revenge on the black sheep of the village, who, they suspect, have commited murder.
Starring Jean Boht - Nellie Boswell in the 1980s TV comedy series Bread - and Irish theatre, TV and film actor Keith McErlean, the finished work will be sent to the four main film festivals at Cannes, Berlin, Venice and the American Film Market.
The shoot begins on the Boy George, a 21-foot oyster skiff, which will be in the Blackwater estuary, off Maldon, for three days.
Extras should contact: casting@angelicfilms.co. uk with photo or drop-in at the sailing club tomorrow or Wednesday beween 9.30am and 4pm.
