Joe Royle gave his full backing to Fabian Wilnis after he felt the Dutch defender was unfairly sent-off in the game's early flashpoint.
Wilnis was red-carded for a professional foul on Jerome Cameron and Blues boss Royle said: "It was very disappointing.
"I thought the referee had a good game overall but one big decision cost us the game.
"Fabian was adamant there was no contact.
"Jerome went down as though there was a sniper in the the stand. It was like he'd been shot and that was very disappointing.
"I certainly don't think Fabian deserved to be sent-off, because the loose ball rolled safely back to Lewis Price. Therefore, it wasn't a clear scoring opportunity."
