Colchester would seem to have joined Silverstone, Monaco and Hockenheim on the international motor racing circuit.
Formula 1 driver Jenson Button set the pace at Indikart, in Grange Way, on Saturday afternoon. Greg Allman, assistant manager, said the track star's manager had booked the circuit for a party.
"It was a complete shock to us when Jenson turned up as well," he said.
"He picked the track up straight away and just got faster and faster. It was quite a slippery surface and he enjoyed doing power slides around the corners.
"After a couple of laps, he started to muck about letting people pass him and then overtaking them. He was a really nice guy and was having great fun."
