A Tesco store blamed by local residents for causing alcohol-fuelled trouble will be serving alcohol for longer.
Tesco Express in Colchester Road, Heybridge, applied under the new licensing Act to extend its serving hours.
It was granted permission at a hearing by Maldon District Council's licensing sub-committee yesterday.
The hearing heard Tesco's existing opening hours were 6am to 11pm seven days a week. It was able to serve alcohol from 8am to 11pm from Monday to Saturday and 10am to 10.30pm on Sunday.
It will now be able to serve alcohol from 6am to 11pm seven days a week.
Residents feel they have had to put up with enough alcohol-related problems.
But Philip Whiting, shop manager at the store, said it had a strict policy preventing youngsters buying alcohol.
