Braintree's MP has met residents campaigning against plans to develop a new multi-level road junction at Cressing.

Brooks Newmark saw representatives of the Cressing A120 Action Group to discuss concerns over plans for a junction at Tye Green on the B1018 between Braintree and Marks Tey.

Campaigners told Mr Newmark that proposals for the junction were based on traffic figures which were three years out of date and Tye Green would be the wrong place to build it.

Mr Newmark and Cressing A120 Action Group campaigners also discussed the contentious issue of the bridging of the River Blackwater.

"I am glad to have been able to attend such a productive meeting," he said.

"The members have dedicated an extraordinary amount of time and effort to preserving the communities and countryside which would be affected by the current proposals.

"I support the need to upgrade the A120 between Braintree and Marks Tey, like many local residents. But the environmental impact to the Blackwater Valley, together with the potential for gridlock around Galley's Corner are just two reasons why the proposed scheme should be reviewed."
