Jay McEveley has added to Ipswich Town's injury-stricken woes after discovering that he will play no further part this campaign.
The Blues have been blighted by a number of injuries in the Coca-Cola Championship which has no doubt been one of the factors behind their current mid-table berth.
But defender McEveley - who is on a season-long loan at Portman Road from Premiership outfit Blackburn Rovers - will need surgery on a medial knee ligament problem that he sustained in Town's 2-1 defeat at Cardiff City on Monday night.
Scans had revealed that the damage was worse than first thought and it will come as a huge blow for the former England Under-20 international, who was hoping to impress Rovers boss Mark Hughes during his stint in Suffolk.
Specialist Mark Bowditch said: "The ligament is torn completely and that means Jay is out for the season.
"It's a real blow for the lad and he will need surgery."
