Eagle-eyed passers-by would have spotted a familiar face from television among those involved in the film, called Tug.
Actress Jean Boht, best known for starring as Nellie Boswell in the 1980s hit Bread, takes one of the leading roles in the film about the community's revenge on residents who they believe commited murder.
The film company, Angelic Films, said Jean became involved after they sent her a script and asked her if she would like to do it.
Also appearing in the film, directed by David Ward, is Irish theatre, TV and film actor Keith McErlean.
The shoot began on the Boy George, a 21ft oyster catcher skiff on the Blackwater Estuary off Maldon and yesterday it switched to Mersea, where the location production office was set up at the Dabchicks Sailing Club in Coast Road.
