Primary schools in mid Essex came under the spotlight today as the latest round of league tables was published.
They reflect the results of 11-year-old pupils taking SATs in English, maths and science in the summer.
But all headteachers have stressed the tables do not reflect a school as a whole and urged parents to read them with care.
The top performing schools in the Braintree district for value added measure, a indicator of how the school has helped children to improve, include Feering Primary School with 102.3, Rayne Primary School with 101.6, Hatfield Peverel St Andrew's Junior School with 101.6, Silver End Primary School with 101 and Great Bradfords Junior School, Braintree, with 100.7.
Rayne Primary School headteacher, Andy Wright, said: "We are pleased because children of all abilities have made very good progress and achieved excellent results.
"We have a new deputy headteacher, Stewart Caplen, who is working with our current year six to raise standards for next year's tests."
The schools which gained the highest marks when the percentages of pupils gaining the target level four in the three core subjects were added together include Powers Hall Junior School, Witham, with 292, compared with 258 in 2004.
Powers Hall deputy headteacher, Jane Bass, said: "We are absolutely thrilled with the results."
