Six people were taken to hospital after a collision in Ardleigh which left a car burnt out.

A blue Renault Clio was involved in a collision with a silver BMW in Park Road, at the junction with Bromley Road, just after 5pm yesterday.

The Clio, which spun around and was left facing the wrong direction, burst into flames as the four teenage boys from Lawford who were in it were getting out.

They were all taken to Colchester General Hospital suffering from minor smoke inhalation. One suffered a foot injury and one had a cut to his forehead.

The BMW, which suffered major damage on the front driver's side, was left stuck in a roadside ditch at a right angle to the road.

The woman driver, who was in her 40s and from Ardleigh, suffered chest, shoulder and ankle injuries, and her ten-year-old daughter was cut on the nose.
