Taxpayers across the Braintree district should expect a lower increase than last year.
This is based upon an increase of three per cent in the grant from central Government given to Braintree Council which was announced yesterday.
The increase in the grant was better than officers and councillors had estimated, which should mean the increase in the local authority proportion of the council tax should be less than last year.
It could be as low as 4.34 per cent if the figures tally in the coming weeks.
Braintree Council could receive a possible grant of £8,261,306. The grant last year was £8,020,387.
The announcement was made at a meeting of the council's cabinet last night
