A man has been jailed for attacking his former partner.
A court heard how Robert Rush broke the woman's arm on one occasion and, on a night out, attacked her in Colchester High Street.
Rush, 26, was jailed for a total of three years after he admitted charges of grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm on his former partner, Claire Hyams.
Chelmsford Crown Court heard how Rush, of Hertford, broke his partner's arm after an argument at his former home in Queen Elizabeth Way, Colchester, in August 2004.
Between then and April this year, there were more arguments between the couple and Rush assaulted her three more times, Shauna Ritchie, prosecuting, said.
On one occasion, he threw food at her while she was in hospital recovering from the broken arm he had given her, Miss Ritchie told the court.
Stephen Dyble, mitigating, said Rush now appreciated his behaviour had been appalling. He also said the guilty pleas from Rush had spared his former partner the ordeal of giving evidence in court.
