A charity is to buy a landmark building in Braintree, ending months of speculation about its future.
Braintree District Museum Trust, which runs the new £2.7million Warner Textile Archive, is buying Warner's Mill, in Silks Way, from Braintree Council as part of the council's effort to raise money by selling off assets and land.
Council chiefs said the money made from the sell-off will be reinvested into community facilities. The sale will mean the trust owns both the archive and the building. Trustees hope this will secure the long-term future of the project.
A loan will have to be taken out for the first time by the trustees. They hope to complete the sale by spring.
The council was not releasing the amount it has been sold for at the moment and the sale is subject to satisfactory contract negotiations.
