WELL-known Thurrock charity fundraiser Rudy Weeber, a long serving volunteer for Marie Curie Cancer Care, has won an accolade at the charity's national Volunteer Achievement Awards, supported by Barclays.
Rudy won the award for Exceptional Volunteer Fundraiser. He has been volunteering for Marie Curie Cancer Care since 2003 and has raised around £12,000. Rudy, 67, is already signed up for the charity's Great Wall of China Trek and the Great 500 Cycle Challenge in Poland, both next year.
Rudy said: "I am really, really pleased to be receiving this award, although it is a bit of a shock. I love working for Marie Curie Cancer Care."
Marie Curie Cancer Care's Head of Volunteering Clair Bryan said: "Judging the Marie Curie Cancer Care Volunteer Achievement Awards has been a very humbling and extremely moving experience. It is obvious that without volunteers like Rudy a lot of the good work the charity does could never be achieved."
Rudy received a unique Caithness Glass paperweight and certificate at a special awards presentation ceremony at Barclays global head quarters in London.
