Children in Clacton are dicing with death by jumping out in front of cars as part of a potentially life-threatening new dare game.
Drivers have witnessed a growing number of incidents where youngsters have sprung off the pavement without warning.
One of the motorists who almost struck a pupil in Jaywick Lane has made a plea for parents and teachers to put out warnings.
Theresa Coyne, who is the chief executive officer of Tendring Community Transport (TCT), told how she came within feet of hitting a boy.
Mike Davies, principal at Bishops Park College, said the matter had been taken seriously. "I asked all class tutors to speak to pupils about issues of safety," he said.
