BOGUS callers struck at six pensioners' homes within four hours.
The crooks conned their way inside the homes in Stanford-le-Hope, Corringham, Tilbury and Grays, pretending they were from a utility company.
The six incidents all happened between 11.30am and 3.30pm on Tuesday.
Police today reminded residents to demand any person who claims to be from a gas, water, electric supply firm to show their identification.
Genuine callers will expect to be asked for identification and will not object to checks.
