CANADIAN singer Tammy Weis is set to jazz up Sunday with an appearance at Churchill’s.

The vocalist, who was inspired to enter the world of music following the death of her mother, brings an esteemed quartet of musicians to the Southend venue.

Tammy’s first album, Legacy, in 2000, was a mix of jazz standards and country classics.

The record helped her win slots at Canada’s finest venues as well as the Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto jazz festivals.

Despite a high profile in the country, Tammy decided to move to London in order to work with other musicians.

Since arriving at these shores, she’s collaborated with the likes of Jamie Cullum, Ray Gelato and Ian Shaw.

Her latest album, Where I Need To Be, is a collection of vocal numbers that draw on her experience of London life.

Tammy is joined on Sunday by the pedal steel guitar innovator, BJ Cole.

BJ has carved out a formidable reputation as a session musician, working with names like Elton John and Marc Bolan, and more recently touring with the Verve, REM and Sting.

Other players on the afternoon are Al Cherry on guitar, Geoff Gascoyne on bass, and drummer Dave Ohm. Doors to the cafe bar, in Tylers Avenue, Southend, open at noon. Admission is £5 for members and £6 for guests.
