THINK you’re funny? Then why not have a go at making people laugh at a new stand-up comedy workshop?
Colchester stand-up Hazel Humphreys has, in the past, run comedy nights in Colchester and Wivenhoe.
As well as bringing in top national names, such as Jo Caulfield, they encouraged local talent with open mic slots and joke competitions.
Now she is going one step further with two comedy workshops, which will take place at Love Bistro, at the Minories Art Gallery.
Hazel said: “The workshops are suitable for anyone interested in having a go at comedy writing and performing.
“They would be especially useful for beginners, or newer comics, who wish to improve their writing and performing skills, or actors seeking to improve their spontaneity and comic skills.
“The workshops will also enable people to create material and share ideas in a supportive environment.”
Hazel said there would be sections on finding inspiration, writing and editing material, performing stand-up, including how best to use microphones, writing sketches and improvisation.
In addition, there will be advice on finding gigs on the stand-up comedy circuit and how to deal with nerves.
The first workshop takes place at the venue, in High Street, Colchester, on Saturday, from 5pm until 7.30pm, with a further session, at the same time, on Saturday, April 17.
The cost for either of the workshops is £12, although concessions and group discounts are available.
