YOUNGSTERS in Colchester have been giving something back to the community.
Children from the Mile End area of town, including members of the Myland Community Crew, joined police community support officers and street wardens for a seed planting session.
Designed to encourage young people to take pride in their area, the event was held yesterday at the Community Garden in High Woods Country Park. Police community support officer Julie Miller explained: “We have a really good relationship with the young people in our area and I’m pleased we’ve been able to work with the street wardens to organise another really good set of events.
“This has been excellent for the kids. Planting seeds in the community garden is an excellent way of giving something back to the community and they’ll be able to see their work come to life as the seeds start to grow.”
The group also enjoyed an Easter egg hunt and a Colchester United Community Sports Trust-organised football day.
Other activities still to come include a litter pick at the Asda supermarket, in Turner Rise, on Saturday, a Wii games event on Monday, a five-a-side football tournament next Wednesday and a trail walk and orienteering event, in High Woods Country Park, on Thursday, April 15.
The activities are open to all members of the Myland Community Crew. To join, or to find out more, contact PCSO Miller, at the Ipswich Road police station, on 0300 3334444.
