A BIKE charity in Colchester has sent its first shipment of cycles to a new project in Africa.
Re-Cycle tests and repairs unwanted bikes from all over the country at its base at Eastgate then ships them to people in need in the developing world.
The latest batch of 400 was loaded into a container yesterday, bound for a scheme in Ghana called Ability Bikes. It provides cycles to people with mobility problems, including a large number of polio sufferers.
Re-Cycle’s Tim Leggett said: “We have worked in Ghana before, but this particular project is completely new to us. As well as the bikes, we are sending tools and parts so they can fix bikes themselves.”
