With reference to the new licensing laws (Gazette, April 5), I find it astonishing the person responsible for briefing the licensees on the new legislation is not clear on what it is and what it actually means.
Simon Harvey, licensing manager for Colchester Council, says: “We need to talk to the police and Trading Standards to come up with some opinions.”
Surely this is not the way the law is interpreted. Why didn’t he have a chat with the powers that be who introduced the law so he was clear before briefing the licensees?
