Lawrie Payne suggesting that the Conservative group does not support LV18 being moored at Harwich quayside (Letters, April 5) is a diabolical effort to shift the blame for his political meddlings to the shoulders of others.
The Conservatives are 100 per cent behind LV18 being moored on Harwich quay and the only reason we removed LV18 from our motion was to ensure funding to construct the required mooring was not lost.
Councillors Payne and Leslie Double moved to rescind the cabinet decision in full, which would have seen the allocated funding lost for good.
Numbers on the night meant we couldn’t win the vote, so we embarked on a damage limitation exercise.
For councillor Payne to suggest otherwise is nonsense and he knows it.
As for political parties all being represented and him signing off as Labour group chairman at Tendring Council, it does not get any more misleading.
There are no Labour, Lib Dem, Independent or Tendring First groups on Tendring Council. They all dissolved these groups to form the “administration group”
with one group leader, David Lines.
I am appalled that councillor Payne is once again allowing politics to hold back the regeneration of this district and, worse still, his home town.
However, I cannot say I am surprised when councillor Payne can’t even face up to the truth that the Labour group simply does not exist!
