Colchester Shopmobility has been located at St Mary’s car park for the past two years to provide mobility scooters to disabled car users.
A year ago, Colchester Council removed all grant funding. The justification was the “low strategic fit”
in the grants programme.
This year, Colchester Council grants more than £23,000 to Shopmobility because it “helps people with limited mobility to independently enjoy the town centre facilities”.
Does this sudden generosity mean Colchester Council will finally permit a mobility scooter service to disabled bus travellers?
So far all proposals have been blocked by Colchester Council, which still refuses to justify its unacceptable treatment of the most needy in Colchester.
