A REFURBISHED swimming pool has suffered yet another hiccup.
Swimmers have complained brown streaks can be seen on the walls at the Colchester Leisure World fitness pool, in Cowdray Avenue, and claim mould is growing across the ceiling.
The pool was reopened in January following a £900,000 refurbishment project, but two leaks sprung in the roof of the pool and the changing rooms had to be closed so more work could take place.
The project, which was due to be completed last September, also encountered problems when asbestos was found in the roof last summer.
Simon Grady, sport and leisure manager, said: “Following investigation by the pool roof installers, it has been concluded the pool hall has some condensation running down the walls.
“During particularly cold periods, the warm air from the pool hall has met the cold surface of the pool roof where it joins the building.
“This condensation has gathered dust along the way, which has caused staining of the pool hall’s internal walls.
“To combat the condensation, extra insulation is currently being added to the new roof by the installers, which will, on completion, resolve the issue.”
The refurbishment of the fitness pool includes a new roof, new changing rooms and a new family spectator lounge.
The work, which includes cavity wall insulation and double glazed windows, means carbon emissions at the venue will be reduced by 500 tonnes a year.
Terry Rootsey, chairman of Colchester Swimming Club, said it had encountered problems at the pool, but added: “We are working with Leisure World to try to put things right.”
