DANCE diva Rozalla takes her international club anthem Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good) to Escape, this week.
The Zambian singer, referred to as the Queen of Rave, performs at the club’s Love to Be, over 25s night, on Wednesday.
Appearing on the London dance scene in the late Eighties, Rozalla released Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good) in 1991.
The track immediately became a club hit, and reached number six in the UK singles chart.
Spreading across Europe, it went into the top ten in ten other countries and the following year peaked at Number 37 on the American Billboard Hot 100.
Rozalla also had success with follow-up singles Faith (In the Power of Love) and Are You Ready to Fly, which both went into the UK Top 15.
In 1992 she opened for Michael Jackson on his Dangerous tour, and enjoyed further success on both sides of the Atlantic in 1994 with I Love Music, which featured on the soundtrack to the crime film, Carlito’s Way.
More recently, Rozalla has moved away from the dance orientated sound for which she is best known, choosing instead to produce more mellow, jazz inspired music.
Her 2009 album Brand New Version, released under her full name Rozalla Miller, features covers of Paul Weller’s Broken Stones, and Wolfman and Pete Doherty’s For Lovers.
Doors to the club, in London Road, Colchester, are open from 9pm to 2am.
Admission is free for women, £3 for men before 10.30pm, and £5 for all afterwards.
