A COLCHESTER DJ is overwhelmed after a World Cup anthem he penned attracted thousands of fans on the internet and interest from a music company.
Marcus Day, who plays in venues including Liquid & Envy Nightclub and Yates’s wine bar, made the song – Bangers and Mash – as a bit of fun.
But he got a surprise a week after he posted the tune on video site Youtube, where more than 3,000 people signed up to listen.
Marcus said: “I got the idea for a tune in my head and decided I would write it and put it up on Youtube for a laugh.”
The musician hopes the song will be chosen as England’s official World Cup anthem.
He has been approached by a music company keen to use the song on a World Cup compilation CD.

“I got a feeling deep inside, It’s not just passion, it’s more than just pride, Red, white colours, England’s our name.
We are the inventors of the beautiful game.
We talk about the players who score the best goals, We talk about the finals like its part of our soul, We’ve had our bad days but we’re too strong for hurt, Because we wear three Lions on our shirt.”
(Chorus) “England, win the World Cup now, We’ll never give up the game, England, make us proud to sing our name.”
