TWO men accused of torturing a man who refused to reveal his bank card PIN told police nothing when quizzed.
A jury heard Danny Howsego and Jon Williams were arrested after the body of 55-year-old Graham Reeve was found in a Colchester flat last summer.
He had allegedly been kidnapped by the pair and bundled into his flat in Charles Pell Road, Greenstead, on July 4.
He was tortured and later murdered when he refused to give his card details, Chelmsford Crown Court was told.
Eleven attempts were made to withdraw money from cashpoints but they all failed.
After each attempt, those responsible returned to assault Mr Reeve, the prosecution has claimed.
Howsego and Williams were arrested shortly after the body of Mr Reeve was found on July 7.
Howsego was interviewed by murder squad detectives eight times over the next few days, but declined to answer any questions.
Williams faced nine interviews between July 7 and 9, and he too did not answer any police questions.
The court heard he made one remark to officers shortly after he was arrested.
Police wanted to know what he had been wearing on the weekend of the murder and Williams told them: “You won’t get the clothing, I did it in. I burned it in Salary Brook.”
Trisha Levett, 28, Howsego, 36, and Williams, 22, all from Stanley Wooster Way, Colchester, deny murder.
Levett and Howsego have denied another charge of robbing Mr Reeve of a bank card. Williams has admitted the charge.
The trial continues.
