I came home to find a leaflet on my porch from Clacton MP Douglas Carswell.
Apart from the usual diatribe mentioning immigration, what I really found amusing and annoying was the information and advice concerning Clacton Pier Ward and its neighbouring areas.
Anybody who comes into the town centre will be aware of what is going on, and those who don’t, have no real concern.
As for the advice about how to get street signs replaced and paving slabs repaired, that really takes the biscuit.
Street signs and paving repairs haven’t suddenly happened. This is an ongoing problem.
Perhaps I am being cynical, but I hear there is an election next year and perhaps, as very few people actually know who their representatives on the council are, the local Conservatives thought it best to get a leaflet out.
While I agree street signs and people’s safety are important, I feel we are missing something here.
Clacton is supposed to be a seaside resort, but what we actually have is: ● A rundown seafront with broken walls, lack of toilets and closed shelters.
● A town centre with a charity/ budget shop theme.
● We lose one brand store and gain a replacement at Waterglade shopping complex, so no increase in brand stores.
● Vandalism and street urchins going unpunished.
● Shops and restaurants paying obscene insurance policies to repair vandalism, which goes unpunished.
● Litter, drunkeness and drug abuse.
These are the topics Clacton’s MP and his cohorts should be tackling, not putting such lukewarm statements out to the populous while ignoring the real issues.
