TWO people have died after a car hit a bridge and caught fire on the A120.
Police, fire and ambulance crews from Colchester responded to reports of a car hitting a bridge support at 2.45pm on Sunday, November 28.
A silver Ford Focus hit the bridge on the eastbound carriageway just prior to the A133 Clacton turn off.
Three fire crews were able to put out the flames and assist other emergency services but the two occupants were already dead.
An ambulance was sent but unfortunately there was nothing they could do. Gary Sanderson, ambulance service spokesman, said: "Sadly two people were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Our thoughts are with their families at this tragic time."
The A120 was closed eastbound, from the A1232 Ipswich Road to the A133 by Great Bromley, but was cleared before 9.30am.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact the Stanway road policing team on 0300 333 4444.
