Myself, and others, regard the junction of Wimpole Road and Brook Street with Magdalen Street and Barrack Street as extremely dangerous, particularly turning right from Wimpole Road into Barrack Street.
The filter that allows traffic to turn right from Wimpole Road, also allows traffic to filter right from Brook Street to Magdalen Street, but more dangerously, even allows traffic travelling straight across the junction from Brook Street into Wimpole Road.
By allowing this, it is such a dangerous situation, as traffic attempting to turn right from Wimpole Road into Barrack Street cannot possibly see any traffic coming up the hill of Brook Street.
I have written to Andy Champ, from Essex County Council’s highways department once before, complaining since the sequence on the traffic lights was changed. They are now downright dangerous.
His first response was the junction had been tested and no problems had been found.
I was not at all happy, so have written to him again.
This time he admits the junction is dangerous and the council is considering other options.
I believe when the county council visited the site following my first letter, they went mid-morning or mid-afternoon, when there is hardly any traffic. They should be looking first thing in the morning and in the evening rush hour.
