A SPECIAL event is being held to help get a soldier badly injured in Afghanistan get mobile again.
Ashley Hall, of Stratford St Mary, a former pupil at St Benedict’s College in Colchester, lost both his lower legs after being injured in Helmand last July.
Between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, December 4, his family and friends are hoping hundreds of people will attend the Polar Bear 2010 Bike Show.
A Facebook page has been set up, called Getting Ash Mobile, which details the event, encouraging anyone with a motorbike to come along. One of the organisers said: “We don’t discriminate. If you have two wheels and an engine, you’re in.”
The event, in March, Cambridgeshire, will run on a pay and display basis with entrants paying £1 and attractions, including food, games and cakes, supplied by the Women’s Institute.
Organiser Phil Hayes said he had come up with the idea as his son had also served in Afghanistan.
He explained: “It is a great worry when your child is serving in Afghanistan. We need the funds for a specially-adapted trike so Ash gets mobile again.”
A raffle with the top prize of a motorbike is planned.
