If you go to Chelmsford, Ipswich or Norwich, or most big towns in Essex, you can park your car and walk to the shops without even going outside and then shop in the warm where most shops are all undercover.

Yet here in Colchester we have car parks spread all over the place, no park and ride, shops spread out everywhere and apart from St John’s walk, we have no cover.

Even the canopies that were in Culver Square have been removed.

Is it any wonder that trade is down about 70 per cent in this weather?

Is it any wonder that people either go to other towns or shop online?
