HEALTH bosses are warning people to be on their guard this winter because the vomiting bug, Norovirus, is expected to be particularly prevalent.
NHS North East Essex is advising people to maintain cleanliness and hygiene to minimise its spread.
Norovirus struck an estimated 6,500 people in north east Essex last winter and is set to increase this year as the bug hits the peak of its usual five year cycle.
Symptoms can begin suddenly and may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach-cramps, chills and muscle aches which tend to last for around 24 hours, although the bug may last for up to 48 hours in the body.
believes any medication they are taking is being compromised can telephone their own GP or NHS Direct for advice on 0845 4647.
