AN EMERGENCY repair scheme costing £28,000 is set to be carried out on the Lower Promenade in Clacton.
Large cracks appeared in the wall beneath the ladies’ toilets between Pier Gap and the Atlanta Cafe at the end of last year.
A section was fenced off while investigations took place and piling work on the retaining wall is due to start on February 20.
Brickwork will take a further ten days and commence after work on a nearby pumping station is complete.
Councillor Nick Turner, head of technical services, said: “Further slippage could result in significant structural damage to the ladies’ toilets and the scheme has been prioritised due to public safety in what is a prominent area on the seafront."
Cash for the project will come from money set aside for seafront refurbishment.
Access to the promenade may be shut off for short periods while construction vehicles manoeuvre.
