A RETIRED teacher who tried to murder his disabled wife after being left to care for her alone has been sent for treatment at a mental hospital.
Mark Charrot, 68, of Smythies Avenue, Colchester, attacked wife Glynis with a hammer and knife as he attempted to slit her throat while she lay in bed asleep.
He then slit his own wrists and throat and lay down next to his wife of 47 years, but both survived.
Charrot admitted attempted murder at Southwark Crown Court today.
