FAMILY and friends gathered to watch nine proud young men join the British Army.
The new recruits made their oath of allegiance to the Queen today in the Mayor’s Parlour, Town Hall, Colchester.
The 18 to 24-year-olds were all recruited through the Colchester Army Careers and Information Office.
Mayor of Colchester Sonia Lewis, speaking after the ceremony, said: “It is a great honour to be here and lovely to see nine successful young men.
“They are the creme de la creme and I wish them good luck and God speed.”
Major Brian McLearnon, the area recruiting officer, said: “It makes it special to do it in the Mayor’s Parlour and I would like to thank the mayor for making it a special day for them and my recruiting team."
