I am writing in response to the letter (February 4) by Mrs Sally Sears about the restrictions on wind chimes at Colchester Cemetery.
The television news broadcast on the subject showed clearly this otherwise quiet place has become something of a fairground.
Some people have done the same thing at Wrabness, where a greenfield site is used as a cemetery.
Some people feel anything goes, but cemeteries should be sacrosanct.
In Switzerland, you are lucky to be able to care for a grave for ten years before the land becomes forfeit.
Plots of land for burial may be expensive – they should thus be looked after, not be adorned with cheap and sometimes nasty decorations which serve no purpose other than to gratify the whim of those misguided people who provide the decorations and put them inappropriately in the first place.
