Clacton Labour Party is calling on the town’s Tory MP Douglas Carswell to sign a Commons Early Day Motion on employment rights.

This campaign was started by a national newspaper to end the scourge of bogus self-employment, in which hundreds of thousands of British people work day in, day out for the same boss but are denied the most basic rights, like paid holiday, sick pay, redundancy and the minimum wage.

The cost to the Exchequer of bogus self-employment is likely to run into billions of pounds and the motion calls on all workers to be declared employees, unless they are genuinely self-employed.

Mr Carswell should support this campaign, if he really has the interests of the people of Clacton.

There are still many workers within Clacton who are not getting their basic rights at work.

Surely Mr Carswell wants to put an end to some people in industries such as taxis and private hire or building exploiting people through bogus self-employment schemes.
