INJURED paratroopers have been given a boost with a charitable donation which is as much about sending the message Colchester cares as the money.

Tiptree-based preserves company Thursday Cottage donated £1,000 to The Parachute Regiment Afghanistan Trust at a special ceremony today. Managing director Tim Came visited Merville Barracks, home of 2nd and 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, to hand over the money to the charity’s chief executive officer Craig Treeby.

With soldiers from 2 Para and Carolyn Harrison, wife of 2 Para’s commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Harrison, looking on the cheque was presented to the charity.
