A SCHEME to create a takeaway in a Colchester street has been approved - despite more than 150 residents signing a petition against it.
Members of Colchester Council's planning committee said they sympathised with the feelings of those living locally but could find no legitimate planning reasons to turn down the scheme for Barrack Street in New Town.
A petition containing 153 signatures was handed in at the previous meeting and five other separate letters of objection were also received.
Members voted 11 to one to put approve the scheme.
