THE dreams of students and staff at Essex University are being gathered as part of a unique project.

Under the University of Dreams project, run by academics in several departments, participants are invited to write about their dreams on the university’s internal internet system.

An exhibition of photographs and images inspired by the dreams will be held on May 3.

Matt Ffytche, from the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies, said: “The goal of the project is not the interpretation of individual dreams, but creating a window on to the dream-life of the university as a whole.

“The idea is to use the site as a way of bringing members of the university together outside the usual organisational divides.

“Although the materials submitted will eventually be archived, the emphasis will be on showcasing the inner life of the university in the present, allowing people to browse the dreams.”

Contributions are invited from students and staff at all three university campuses, Colchester, Southend and Loughton, until next Monday.

The dream accounts will be posted on the university website in the summer.
